In this course, students will learn how to analyze spatial data. Spatial data is data that contains location information in geospatial coordinates. In recent years, the use of spatial data has been increasing not only in academic research but also in policy making, marketing, etc. Through this course, students will acquire the specialized knowledge required for spatial data analysis from both theoretical and empirical perspectives to solve problems proactively. The theoretical part of the course aims to provide students with a correct understanding of the characteristics of spatial data and the methods of quantitative analysis using spatial data, while the empirical part of the course aims to enable students to learn how to manipulate QGIS, R, and RStudio for spatial data analysis. In addition, the course aims to help students acquire basic skills in data collection, data preprocessing, data analysis, and report writing, which are required in data science.
In this course, students will learn how to analyze spatial data. Spatial data is data that contains location information in geospatial coordinates. In recent years, the use of data containing such spatial information has been increasing not only in academic research but also in policy making and marketing. Through this course, students will acquire the specialized knowledge required for spatial data analysis from both theoretical and empirical perspectives to solve problems proactively. The theoretical part of the course aims to provide students with a correct understanding of the characteristics of spatial data and methods of spatial econometric analysis, while the empirical part aims to enable students to learn how to use R and RStudio to conduct econometric analysis using spatial data.
This course will focus on theoretical and empirical research focusing on firm heterogeneity, known as the New New Trade Theory, and will also cover a wide range of recent topics such as foreign direct investment, outsourcing, and trade in services.
